LaMelo Ball Fined $35k, Avoids Suspension

Charlotte Hornets fans can breathe a major sigh of relief today. Despite a controversial play that had everyone talking, star point guard LaMelo Ball has officially avoided a suspension from the NBA.

The league announced on Wednesday that Ball has been fined $35,000 for making "unnecessary and reckless contact" with Miami Heat center Bam Adebayo during Tuesday's game.

The incident, which some labeled a trip, occurred in the second quarter when Ball, after missing a shot and falling, appeared to yank Adebayo’s leg as he tried to secure the rebound. It was a scary moment that left Bam visibly frustrated and Heat coach Erik Spoelstra calling for an ejection.

Many speculated a suspension was a real possibility, but after review, the league stuck with a strictly financial penalty. While $35k is not exactly chump change, even for a superstar, it’s a small price to pay to keep your best player on the court for the next game.
